How to Increase Your Income As A Content Creator

August 30, 2020
Find out 7 different ways to make money blogging and have multiple streams of income.

Having multiple streams of income is important when it comes to being a Content Creator. When I started blogging, I had no clue that you could make money writing posts and creating content for others. Once I found that out, I looked into the different ways to make money blogging.

You want to diversify your streams of income because you never know how your financial situation will look. For example, working with brands is one way to bring in money. What if you’re not receiving as many partnerships during a specific season? This happens a lot in the beginning of the year and starts picking back up around the Summer and holiday times. If you have other streams of income, this won’t affect you as much!

In this post, I’m discussing 7 ways you can increase your income as a Content Creator. I recommend starting out with one and then adding another stream of income once you’re comfortable. You don’t want to focus on too many and become overwhelmed!

Ways to Make Money Blogging

Ad Networks + Banners

One of the ways to make money blogging is using Ad Networks and Banners. Personally, I haven’t tried this option because I read that you need high traffic to your website in order to benefit from it. One popular network I see many recommend is Google AdSense. On the website, you can put in your location + niche and find an estimate of how much you can earn based on your monthly visitors.

I tried it out and here is what I received:

One of the ways to make money blogging is to use an Ad Network such as Google AdSense.

As you can see, the minimum page views for their calculator starts at 50,000. I’m sure you can try this stream of income whenever you want, however, don’t expect to receive a lot of money immediately.

You can also sell ad space to brands on your website! If they want to promote their brand or certain products on your website, you can allow them to do that for a specified amount of time. I haven’t experienced this before, however, make sure you charge them accordingly based on the monthly views you’re bringing in.

If you choose ads as a form of income, make sure you don’t use too many. One downfall to using ads is it can turn readers away. You don’t want to overwhelm potential subscribers and customers when they visit your website. Keep it clean and professional!

Affiliate Links

One of the ways to make money blogging is by using Affiliate Links and receiving a commission.

Affiliate links allow you to earn a percentage of a sale when someone clicks on it and purchases the item. If you’re regularly promoting a brand, this is a great way to make money blogging! When you recommend a product or service from a company, they will give you a commission based on how many people bought it. Some companies pay you a flat fee per order or they provide a discount on the sale amount.

In my opinion, using affiliate links is the easiest stream of income to start using. Even though it may not be as much as you expect, it’s still monthly income. Here are some examples of affiliate programs and ways to create passive income:

  • Amazon Influencer Storefront
  • Amazon Affiliate Program
  • RewardStyle
  • ShareASale
  • Target Affiliate Program
  • Brand Partnerships

I use the Amazon Influencer Storefront and Affiliate Program for this blog and my platforms. Everyone buys from Amazon, therefore, you can expect sales depending on the type of products you promote. They pay you a percentage of the total amount buyers have spent. Another thing I love about Amazon is if someone clicks on your link to buy the product you’re promoting, you can make more money if they order other items!

Example: You’re promoting a Canon Camera. A buyer adds that to the cart and then continues to look for other products. You’ll receive a commission for that too!

Influencer Networks

Influencer networks are platforms that help connect brands and creators for campaigns. They serve as the middleman! Some networks require certain criteria to be met before getting approved, however, most of them are easy to sign up for and start booking campaigns!

If you’re not a fan of sending email pitches to brands, I believe Influencer networks are a great alternative. Usually, you’ll find a list of active campaigns you can apply to. You’ll be able to see the purpose of the campaign, deliverables they’re expecting, compensation (if there is any), and what type of creators they’re looking for. I love viewing all of the information upfront because I can decide whether or not it would be the perfect fit for my audience.

On these networks, you’ll connect your social media platforms and the brands will have access to your analytics. From there, they’ll decide if you’re a good fit and you’ll be notified when you’re accepted.

Brand Partnerships

One of the ways to make money blogging is by working with your favorite brands.

One of the most popular ways to make money blogging is by working with brands. Working with your favorite brands on different campaigns can bring in a good amount of income. Whether they reach out to you or you send an email pitch, charging a flat rate for the deliverables they’re expecting is important. Your rates will vary and won’t be the same as someone else.

What you decide to charge for your content is completely up to you. However, here are some factors to keep in mind before deciding how much you’ll charge for a collaboration:

  • Is there a deadline?
  • How long will it take you to create the content?
  • Where will they use your content? (website, brochures, etc.)
  • Exclusivity (not able to work with competitors)
  • Your engagement rate
  • Quality of your content
  • Equipment/Software you’ll use

You can choose the type of deliverables you want to offer brands. Some examples are Instagram posts, Youtube videos, Blog posts, and Ambassadorships. When you’re first starting out, you may want to focus on taking free products to get your foot in the door. You want to build up your experience so you can start charging your worth!

Create Your Own Products

Creating your own product is one of the best ways to make money blogging.

There are a variety of things you can offer if you choose to create your own products. Some bloggers make digital products and others make physical. Here are some examples:

  • eBooks
  • Online Courses
  • Webinars
  • Beauty Products
  • Clothes/Shoes
  • Accessories/Jewelry

Having your own product can bring in another stream of income even while you’re sleeping. Thinking about having that option sounds amazing, right?

The majority of the time, I see bloggers launch eBooks and courses on topics their audience wants to learn more about. If you notice that you’re receiving similar questions, put together an eBook that’ll break down all of the information. If you want it to be more interactive, you can record a series of videos and put together an Online Course.

It all depends on your preference and what you believe your audience would benefit from. Some people enjoy reading and others learn better from listening.

If you want to have your own product line, you can go for that too! Don’t let the fact that other people are doing it stop you from pursuing your passion. When you go to the store, there are many different brands to choose from and they sell within the same category. Imagine if one of them decided not to go for it because there’s too much competition!

As creators, we all have a unique voice and something to share with others. Even if you’re in the same niche as others and want to create similar products, you can still stand out by being authentic and knowing how to answer what your audience needs.

Offer Services

If you’re an expert in a specific niche, people are willing to pay for your knowledge and advice! Choosing different services to offer for your audience is another way to make money blogging. There are a variety of things you can offer such as:

  • Group Coaching
  • Blog Consultation
  • Photography
  • Virtual Assistant
  • Editor
  • Memberships
  • One-On-One Coaching

You can use your services as an opportunity to provide more in-depth information that you haven’t covered on your website or social media platforms. Make sure you come up with prices that reflect how much time you’ll be contributing toward each service and the valuable information you’ll be offering.

As a creator, I usually receive questions about securing brand deals, paid partnerships, and starting a blog. When I’m ready, I’ll most likely offer services for these topics since it’s what most people want to learn about! If you receive good feedback from the knowledge you provide others, there’s nothing wrong with making an income from that.

Contribute to Other Websites

One of the best ways to make money blogging is to contribute blog posts to other websites within your niche.

One of the last ways to make money blogging is by contributing posts to other websites. Look for opportunities within your niche and pitch your blog post ideas to the owner! This is a great way to show your expertise on certain topics and get your work in front of more readers.

You can charge a flat rate for each post or choose to get paid hourly. Depending on how long it takes for you to write a post and promote it, I’d charge a flat fee upfront! Writing a post takes a lot of time and effort. You have to take the following into consideration:

  • Make sure the SEO is on point
  • Create Pinterest images for promotion
  • Share it on your platforms
  • How many images will you provide?
  • How much research is needed?

There’s a lot that goes into writing and posting a blog, therefore, you want to charge accordingly. When writing the post, make sure you include links back to your content! This is a great way to bring in more readers and potential subscribers. It’s also perfect for building up legit backlinks for your brand.

I’ve had the opportunity to contribute a blog post to a brand named EDEN BodyWorks. Check out the post here!

If you’re looking for different ways to make money blogging, these are perfect! Multiple streams of income is key if you plan on doing this full-time. You always want to make sure you’ll have income even if one stream doesn’t work out.

Those are great ideas! So far, I think my focus will be color analysis and style services, and an affiliate capsule wardrobe guide based on your color analysis type. But that’s only two. I might either write ebooks or create a courses in the future. I’m using Google analytics to see which blog posts are doing the best, so that may give me some ideas. Thanks for your guidance!
