Creating the perfect skincare routine for your face is important, however, it isn’t the only routine you should be focused on. We always talk about how to take care of our face, but what about the rest of our body from the neck down? That’s important too!
We prioritize taking care of our face since that’s the first thing people will see, but the skin below your neck needs the same TLC and shouldn’t be forgotten about.
You probably don’t think often about a routine for your body. I’m sure most people follow the basics: hop in the shower/bath and then slap some lotion on afterward. Although that’s simple and easy to follow, it’s time to focus on including steps you probably don’t know much about that will give you glowing, healthy skin.
Steps for Your Body Care Routine
Cleansing Your Body
This should be a no brainer, but you want to take a shower every day. Some people take a shower morning and night while others may stick to once a day. Just like your face needs a clean slate before adding products to it, your body is the same way! Not only is taking a shower daily important but using the right products on your body is too.
You should be using a cleanser that’s meant specifically for your body care routine. Look for gentle soaps or body washes that will cleanse without stripping your skin or causing irritation. This is important if you struggle with dry, sensitive skin and/or eczema as I do. Personally, I can’t use a cleanser that is heavily scented or contain fragrance. Exfoliating Your Body
Exfoliating isn’t only good for your face, it’s also an important step to include in your body care routine. You want to ensure you exfoliate regularly to remove dead skin cells and reveal brighter, soft skin. In order to exfoliate your body, you want to choose the correct products and/or tools to use. Here are my favorite ones:
Josie Maran Sugar Scrub
I love using the Argan Sugar Balm Scrub from Josie Maran. It’s a hydrating exfoliating scrub that is formulated with 100% Argan oil and sugar crystals. Whenever she has a sale on QVC, I always have to purchase it—this is one of the best scrubs I’ve used on my body.
Not only does it smell good, but it also leaves my skin feeling fresh and smooth. The good thing about her products is they aren’t heavily scented! I’m able to use this on my sensitive skin without it causing any irritations.
I love the texture of this scrub and how easy it is to rub on my skin without spilling it all over the shower. Thank me later once you try this scrub!
Another way to exfoliate is by using exfoliating gloves. I started using this in my shower routine not too long ago and I love it. These are gentle and perfect to use on sensitive skin—it’s not abrasive at all. I use these in my routine often and I love that I can cleanse my body and exfoliate at the same time.
I’m sure you can find these in a store, however, I purchased mine from Amazon. I found an affordable set of gloves and it comes in different colors. The good thing is you don’t have to throw them away after using it in your routine, you can toss them in your washing machine and go from there!
Shave Correctly and Gently
If you’re still team shave as I am, it’s important to do it the correct way. First of all, you want to shave towards the end of your shower since your hair will be softer and easier to remove. You want to use a shaving cream that’ll allow your razor to glide smoothly without causing nicks or irritation.
We talked about shaving in my previous blog post on feminine hygiene tips! One thing I want to repeat from that post is you want to use a good-quality razor. Switch out your razors after using them a certain amount of times. You want to always keep backups on hand.
I had the opportunity to try a new razor from a brand called Oui Shave a few weeks ago and I love it. The color is gorgeous and adding this razor in my body care routine has made it easier and faster for me to shave. It’s a single blade razor and was created for sensitive skin. The razor is designed to provide a smooth, close cut without the irritation others may cause.
I also tried their Shave Oil, this was my first time using oil to shave in my routine! I was a little nervous, however, it ended up working very well. The oil serves as a protective barrier between the blade and your skin; It will allow the razor to glide smoothly and can also soften your hair for easy removal.
After you finish cleaning, exfoliating and shaving, it’s time to apply a good moisturizer. I’ve read a few articles that said you should put on your moisturizer while your skin is still damp, however, I haven’t tried this for myself yet. Make sure the moisturizer you’re using contains all-natural ingredients as well! What we put on top of our skin is just as important as what we put in it.
As soon as I finish my body care routine in the shower, I moisturize immediately. One of my favorite moisturizers to use is the Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter from Josie Maran. I’ve continued to use this in my routine and I love how it makes my skin feel! Although her products are a little pricey, it’s worth it for the quality you receive.
