Do you know what’s a pain in the butt? Waking up to a new breakout on your face. And what’s even worse? Once it starts to clear up, you’re left with hyperpigmentation to get rid of. Dealing with issues like this can make us feel self-conscious!
I’ve tried many DIY’s, remedies, and products that claimed to get rid of hyperpigmentation. If I saw someone recommend a product for dark spots, I had to have it.
It’s been an up and down journey with my skin, however, I’m satisfied with where it is today. I knew I wanted to see a change, therefore, it required consistency and most importantly patience. We always want to see changes overnight, however, skincare doesn’t work that way. You have to give products enough time to work their magic and not give up because you don’t see immediate results.
In this post, I’m sharing my top favorite clean beauty products that helped me clear up my dark spots and gain my confidence back.

Products That Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation
Genedor Beauty Retinol
Retinol has been a game-changer since adding it to my routine. Here are some benefits of using it:
- Helps fight acne
- Evens out skin tone
- Reduces wrinkles
- Stimulates collagen
The Even Tone Retinol Complex from Genedor Beauty is perfect if you need to get rid of hyperpigmentation. I use this every night and it has done a great job at clearing up breakouts and dark spots. It fights the signs of skin discoloration and brightens your problem areas. When you first start using Retinol, you want to use it a few times per week to make sure your skin can tolerate it.
This product is on the pricier side, $100 for a bottle. Yes, I know, don’t make that face… I already know what you’re thinking! Who would want to spend that much money on a product? Well, sis, it works! Normally I wouldn’t spend that much money on beauty products, however, I’ve seen the results and it always gets my skin right! Make sure you subscribe to her emails because she does have good sales. I was able to get 50% off both times I purchased this.
If that is outside of your budget, an affordable option that still provides good results is The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid. Make sure when you use Retinol, you apply sunscreen every morning!

The Ordinary Rosehip Oil
Rosehip is one of my favorite facial oils to use in my routine. Besides working perfectly for reducing hyperpigmentation, it has more benefits such as:
- Boosts collagen formation
- Protects against sun damage
- Provides moisture + hydration
- Reduces inflammation
I’ve been using this oil from The Ordinary for a while now and it leaves my skin glowing and moisturized. I’m able to use it on its own without a cream moisturizer. I apply this as the last step in my routine and it has proved to be beneficial for those annoying dark spots.

Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic
The Glow Tonic from Pixi Beauty is the most recent addition to my routine and all I can say is… the hype is real. I’ve heard great things about this toner and I’m glad Pixi Beauty sent me this to try. One ingredient in this product is Glycolic Acid which is perfect for getting rid of hyperpigmentation. Glycolic Acid also does the following:
- Reduces acne
- Has anti-aging benefits
- Exfoliates your skin by loosening dead cells
- Improves skin texture and complexion
Since this is a toner, you would use this on freshly cleansed skin. It can be used twice a day, however, I’ve cut it down to 2-3 times per week at nighttime. Using this leaves my skin brighter and I’m glad it also removes any dirt my cleanser may have missed.
This toner is alcohol-free and is formulated with other nourishing ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Ginseng, Witch Hazel, and Glycerin. When using this toner, I recommend these cotton pads. I love these because they are gentle on my skin and don’t tear apart like other ones. They’re also affordable!
Premier Naturals African Black Soap
Adding Premier Naturals by K2 African Black Soap into my routine was one of the best decisions for my skin. Many people tend to steer clear from African Black Soap since it can be drying, however, this doesn’t leave my skin tight or irritated.
This soap played a huge part in getting my skin back on track If you haven’t tried African Black Soap, I recommend this brand. It has many benefits such as:
- Cleanses + exfoliates the skin
- Antibacterial properties
- Fights breakouts
- Reduces hyperpigmentation
- Soothes irritated skin
Teami Blends Detox Mask
The last product that helped me achieve clear skin is the Green Tea Detox Mask fromTeami Blends. I found out about this product in 2017 and have been using it ever since. This mask is formulated with Organic Matcha Green Tea, Lemongrass, and Bentonite Clay.
It also contains antioxidants that can replenish your skin and leave it smooth and renewed! I love how easily this mask glides on and it has never dried my skin out. How often you use this mask is up to you, however, no more than 2 times per week should suffice.
