Using face oils in my routine has been a game-changer. This is one product I recommend everyone add to their routine, and yes, even those with oily and acne-prone skin can benefit from using oils!
There are a variety of oils you can use and they have the following benefits:
- Can treat skin issues
- Conditions the skin
- Reduces hyperpigmentation
- Provides nourishment
- Regulates the skin’s sebum production
I didn’t start experimenting with oils until later in my routine when I couldn’t find a good moisturizer. My skin is dry year-round, therefore, it’s important to find products that’ll provide the moisture I need throughout the day and night.
There’s nothing more irritating than dry, flaky patches of skin that pop up after a few hours of doing your routine.
In this post, I want to share my favorite face oils for dry skin! I’ve been using these for a while now and continue to rotate them in my routine. You can use a face oil on its own or you can follow up with one after applying your moisturizer.

Face Oils for Dry Skin
The Ordinary Rosehip Oil
One of the best face oils for dry skin is the Rose Hip Seed Oil from a brand called The Ordinary. Their products are budget-friendly and the ones I’ve tried so far have worked amazing.
Rosehip Oil comes from the fruit and seeds of the Rose plant and is packed with nourishing vitamins + essential fatty acids. Here are some benefits of using it:
- Has antibacterial + antifungal properties
- Provides hydration for supple skin
- Helps lock in the skin’s natural moisture
- Encourages faster cell turnover
- Exfoliates + brightens the skin
Rosehip oil is also great for protecting your skin against sun damage. Although it has this benefit, it shouldn’t be a replacement for sunscreen.
Since it can reduce the negative effects of UV exposure, it’s best to pair it with a sunscreen with SPF 30. I’ve talked about one of my favorite sunscreens on the blog before, which is Black Girl Sunscreen! I highly recommend it!

Josie Maran Argan Oil
I’ve been a customer of Josie Maran for a few years and one of my favorite products is their Argan Oil.
It’s rich, soothing, absorbs quickly into the skin, and is high in Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps prevent sun damage, dark spots, and fine lines + wrinkles by blocking environmental damage.
More benefits from using this are:
- Nourishes + conditions the skin
- Hydrates + provides a dewy glow
- Perfect for dry, sensitive skin
- Contains rich sources of essential fatty acids + antioxidants
All you need is a couple of drops and it easily spreads across your face and neck. It’s non-greasy and will leave your skin feeling moisturized all day.
Sweet Almond Oil
Almond Oil is hydrating and perfect for those with eczema, dermatitis, and dry skin. It’s high in Vitamin A which fights against acne and can reduce fine lines + wrinkles.
Different brands sell this, however, the one I recommend is from Now Solutions.
I love not only using this on my face but also on my entire body. I’ve struggled with eczema for years and thankfully, Almond Oil helps me maintain it and provides relief for itchy, patchy skin.
This oil is also fast-absorbing and won’t leave you feeling or looking greasy. If anything, it provides a subtle glow and will keep your skin smooth!
Tea Tree Essential Oil
It’s important to remember that essential oils can be too strong to use on their own. You should mix them with a carrier oil if you want to reduce irritation while receiving the benefits.
Tea Tree Oil does the following:
- Improves overall appearance of skin
- Promotes healthy skin
- Has soothing + healing properties
- Can be used to treat acne
- Prevents + reduces acne scars
When choosing Tea Tree Oil, you want to ensure it doesn’t contain any additives. One of my favorites can be found here on Amazon.
Before using this on your skin, do a patch test to make sure it won’t cause any burning or irritation. Some good carrier oils to mix this with are Almond, Avocado, and Jojoba Oil.
Lemon Essential Oil
Lemon is another essential oil that should be diluted before applying to the skin.
One of the main reasons I wanted to incorporate this in my routine is because it’s known to reduce hyperpigmentation, which is an issue I’ve always struggled with. It’s best to use this during your nighttime routine!
Here are some benefits of using Lemon Oil:
- Removes dead skin cells that clog pores
- Reduces inflammation that causes acne
- Boosts collagen production
- Controls oil production + shrinks pores
- Can help prevent premature aging
My favorite quality of Lemon oil is the smell. It’s not an overbearing scent and shouldn’t cause any irritation or headaches, however, everyone is different. The smell does linger for some time after applying it to your skin. Using this before bedtime relaxes me!
I’ve been using Eucalyptus oil in my DIY face masks for a few months now and have been loving it. It has antibacterial + anti-microbial properties which makes it perfect for conditions such as acne and eczema.
Eucalyptus kills acne-causing bacteria and can help reduce redness/inflammation. The brand I enjoy using is called Nature’s Truth!
Here are a few more benefits to expect:

- Acts as an effective moisturizer
- Removes impurities
- Reduces dark spots/acne scars
- Promotes the renewal of cells
