Lipstick has recently become my favorite makeup product. I went years thinking wearing lipstick wasn’t for me, but I’m glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone and gave them a try. I’ve tried a variety of bold, bright lipsticks and fell in love with them!
You know I’m all for clean beauty – the last thing you want is to use makeup that contains harsh ingredients. My skin is already sensitive, so I’ve been careful when choosing products for my beauty routine.
In this post, I want to share my favorite black-owned lipsticks that are perfect for women of color. These shades go well with our skin tones and will give you the boost of confidence you need! They also contain all-natural ingredients.

Black-Owned Lipsticks
The Lip Bar

The Lip Bar has a variety of lipsticks and shades for women of color. They’re also cruelty-free and vegan! The owner started her brand because she noticed the media was telling women that beauty looked a certain way. She was determined to change the way people think and show there is no standard.
Prima Donna

One of my favorite black-owned lipsticks is Prima Donna. This color matches my complexion well and would be perfect to wear for a girl’s night out! It’s a purple-ish shade and comes as liquid matte. I love using matte lipsticks because the colors are vibrant and long-lasting. Whenever I wear this, I don’t have an issue with the color transferring and it feels comfortable on my lips for hours.
Before we go any further, I want to let you know that wearing matte lipsticks aren’t bad! I know some women don’t like them because they can be drying or uncomfortable. What I like to do is apply a moisturizing lip balm beforehand. Doing this will keep your lips moisturized throughout the day.
Playmate

This color caught my attention because I love pink! Playmate isn’t too bright or dark and I love how it looks on our complexion. I appreciate that she created this with the right amount of color so it can look bomb on everyone’s skin tone.
It’s always nice when a makeup brand keeps women of color in mind when creating their products — especially since it can be difficult for us to find the perfect shade.
Playmate also comes in liquid matte and is long-lasting. This color reminds me of a bubbly-type, playful personality. I believe you can wear this at any time of the day whether you’re going out for brunch or going to a gathering in the evening. Playmate will bring your entire look together!

Icon

The Lip Bar recently launched their Max Matte Lipsticks and Icon is the bold color that caught my attention. It was out of my comfort zone, however, I ended up falling in love with it as I continued to wear it. I love how neat the packaging is and it’s very easy to apply — the color payoff is beautiful and vibrant!
I would wear Icon during a night out although it looks perfect for any time of the day. Wearing this will give you that boost of confidence you’re looking for, and as they say on the website, “it makes a huge statement without saying a word.”
Hot Mama

The name of this lipstick fits very well. Red lipsticks have to be my number one favorite no matter which brand I get them from. I won Hot Mama in a giveaway and I was excited to try it. Let’s just say, it didn’t disappoint!
Hot Mama is a fire-engine red color, I love that it’s not too bright, the shade is just right. On the website, it says this will “set your lips ablaze and bring all the heat to your makeup looks, day and night.” Just from reading that description, why wouldn’t you want to wear it?
Fiya Metallic Matte

Another favorite is the Fiya Metallic matte lipstick which is from the Justine Skye Collection. It’s a nude metallic, chocolate brown shade that goes on easily and comes off quickly! I’m not sure if this will be available again on their website, however, they do have the Cheek and Eye Palette from this collection still in stock!
The lipsticks from this brand have exceeded my expectations. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the rest of the shades they offer. If you don’t want to order them online, you can see if your local Target carries some of these shades!
Coloured Raine
Another black-owned lipstick brand you should support is Coloured Raine. The founder wanted to create a cosmetic line that encouraged self-expression and included shades for women of color. She pursued her passion and launched a collection of long-lasting liquid lipsticks with the perfect shades. Her lipsticks are cruelty-free, vegan, and paraben-free. Check out the variety of products that she creates here.
Roulette

Roulette is a dark rogue liquid lipstick with purple undertones. I love darker shades for my complexion! It’s easy to apply and lasts throughout the day. Even if you eat or drink something, the lipstick stays in place and you won’t have to worry about reapplying it.
Roulette is a matte lipstick and it doesn’t leave my lips feeling uncomfortable. It goes with any look you put together! Since Fall is around the corner, I know this would be the perfect shade to continue wearing when I go out. I can’t wait to try more of the shades they offer!

If you haven’t tried lipstick before, I encourage you to start with one of these! Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new! Since many brands don’t have a wide range of shades for women of color, shopping with black-owned brands is the best option. These women create products with our skin tones in mind!

I love the limber I started using them 2 years ago before they got so popular. My first purchase was savage, silent killer ( which is a bomb shade they no longer sell), and boy trouble. I plan on getting the new shades. I recently just purchased the bronzer just got paid . I love cruelty free products and so does my skin
Yessss sis. I’m trying to do better with using only cruelty-free products and then with natural ingredients on top of that. I don’t need my skin breaking out from that. I need to try those shades that you mentioned, especially Savage.
