The Best 6 Face Cleansers for Sensitive Skin

August 11, 2020

Finding the right products for sensitive skin can be difficult. When I started taking the health of my skin seriously, it took me forever to find products that worked. I had to go through experiencing irritation and breakouts whenever my skin didn’t agree with something. One of the biggest things I struggled with was finding the perfect cleansers for sensitive skin.

It has been a long journey, however, I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found what works best for my skin! Keep in mind, even though you may share the same skin type as someone, it’s important to still do a patch test. Patch testing new products is key when you have sensitive skin. One small thing can set you back to square one.

In this post, I’m sharing my favorite cleansers for sensitive skin that have worked wonders for me. Most of them are budget-friendly and some you have to splurge on. However, I promise every product is worth the coins!

Cleansers for Sensitive Skin

Demosea Botanicals Refine

One of the best cleansers for sensitive skin is Demosea Botanicals Refine Cleanser.

I had a chance to try Demosea last year and wasn’t disappointed. One of the best cleansers for sensitive skin that I recommend is the Refine Face Cleanser — a gentle cleanser suitable for sensitive + dry skin types.

This is a gel cleanser that turns into a foam. A little goes a long way and it provides an amazing lather. It’s also unscented which is important! Usually, sensitive skin doesn’t react well to fragranced products, therefore, you want to be mindful of that when choosing cleansers too.

Every time I’ve used this, my face felt soft + moisturized. This was a great sign because cleansers I’ve used in the past left my skin tight and dry with the squeaky feeling.

Here are some benefits of using this cleanser:

  • Gently cleanses & dissolves impurities
  • Addresses redness & irritation
  • Soothes the skin
  • Has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Provides natural hydration
  • Leaves skin soft + supple

Key ingredients: Aloe Vera Juice, Cucumber Extract, Chamomile Extract, ProVitamin B5.

Demosea Botanicals Clarify

Another good-quality cleanser for sensitive skin is Demosea’s Clarifying Facial Cleanser — it clarifies, softens, and hydrates the skin. I love using this during my nighttime routine because it does a great job of removing all of the dirt + oils that piled up on my face throughout the day. It’s perfect for a deep cleanse and will leave your skin feeling refreshed.

One thing I love about this cleanser is the tingly sensation it provides. It contains Lemongrass + Peppermint, this made me nervous in the beginning but it’s very soothing. This is also a gel consistency and will foam as you rub it into your skin.

It’ll help dissolve impurities and reduce the bacteria that lead to breakouts. Lemongrass oil is a natural toner that replenishes the skin and has antiseptic properties that are perfect for killing bacteria.

Key ingredients: Lemongrass Essential Oil, Peppermint Essential Oil, Glycerin, Potassium Oleate (emulsifier).

Skin & Co Whipped Cleanser

Skin & Co Whipped Cleansing Cream

I was introduced to this brand when I was subscribed to BoxyCharm, a monthly subscription box where you receive beauty products from different companies. Ever since I tried this cream, I fell in love with it! The next cleanser I’ll be discussing is the Whipped Cleanser from Skin & Co.

This is a gel-creme cleanser formulated to provide a deep cleanse and remove makeup, dirt, and impurities. It keeps your pores free from congestion + blemishes and does a great job at soothing + calming the most sensitive skin. I love that this cleanser spreads easily and leaves my skin moisturized and soft. Check out how I use this cleanser in my routine by watching the video below!

Here are more benefits of this cleanser:

  • Provides intense hydration
  • Restores the skin’s natural moisture barrier
  • Has anti-inflammatory + antiseptic properties
  • Brightens blemishes + discoloration
  • Cleanses without stripping the skin

Although this cleanser is on the pricier side, it’s worth every penny. It should last for months because a little goes a long way! This will always be my go-to cleanser.

Key ingredients: Black Winter Truffle Extract, Sweet Almond Oil, Mallow Leaf, Chamomile, Witch Hazel Extract.

Skin & Co Face Gommage

Skin & Co Face Gommage is the perfect cleanser and exfoliant for sensitive skin.

The Face Gommage from Skin & Co is another great cleanser for sensitive skin. This is similar to the Whipped Cleansing Cream, however, it’s also an exfoliant. I love that you can cleanse and exfoliate at the same time with this product. It cuts down on the number of steps you have to do in your routine!

I use this 2-3x per week as an exfoliating treatment and my skin always feels smooth after using it. You don’t have to worry about this being too harsh on your skin. Make sure you don’t press down too hard, let the cleanser do all of the work.

This cleanser gently removes impurities and dirt while revealing a healthier complexion. Remember, exfoliating in your skincare routine regularly is important. You want to get rid of those dead skin cells so you can achieve that natural glow!

The exfoliant in this cleanser is finely milled Apricot Seed Powder, which is something I’ve never tried before. I love it when an exfoliant is fine because I don’t have to worry about it being too abrasive for my skin. This cleanser also has the following benefits:

  • Provides a rejuvenated, radiant finish
  • Buffs away dry, flaky skin
  • Provides a youthful, hydrated complexion
  • Brightens blemishes + discoloration
  • Repairs skin cells damaged by free radicals

Key ingredients: Black Winter Truffle, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Seed Powder, Olive Oil, Apricot Oil

Premier Naturals by K2 ABS

Using African Black Soap has helped me get rid of hyperpigmentation and breakouts.

The next cleanser for sensitive skin that I recommend is the African Black Soap from Premier Naturals by K2. When I started my skincare journey, I had a bad experience with black soap. I ended up choosing a brand that didn’t sell the authentic African Black Soap and it irritated + burnt my skin terribly. It’s important to make sure the black soap you purchase is legit — remember, it’s brown, not black!

There are many benefits of using African Black Soap in your skincare routine such as:

  • Contains antibacterial properties
  • Helps soothe skin irritations (eczema)
  • Has anti-inflammatory properties
  • Helps fight acne w/ antimicrobial properties
  • Reduces hyperpigmentation
  • Improves skin texture

I’m happy I decided to give African Black Soap another try. Once I saw the results it provided me, I was sold. Also, make sure you pay attention to the ingredients when purchasing black soap, it usually contains the following: Water, Cocoa Pod Ashes, Plantain Skin Ashes, Shea Butter, Palm Oil/Coconut Oil.

TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Cleanser

The last cleanser for sensitive skin that I’m featuring is the Vitamin C Cleanser from TruSkin Naturals. I found this while searching for new products on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Buying this was a great decision!

This cleanser is formulated with high-quality ingredients and is the perfect solution for those with sensitive skin. One ingredient that stood out to me in this cleanser is, of course, Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is known to be one of the best anti-aging ingredients and the key to maintaining a smooth, even complexion. Here are more benefits of using this in your skincare routine:

  • It’s hydrating for the skin
  • Helps fade pigmentation + brighten the skin
  • Anti-inflammatory properties reduce redness
  • Helps even out your skin tone
  • Boosts collagen production
  • Protects against sun damage

This provides a great lather and helped with dark spots when I used it. After I finished, I never replaced the bottle, however, I would repurchase this in the future! I didn’t have to worry about this drying out my skin or causing irritation while using this.

Key ingredients: Vitamin C, MSM, Rose Hip Oil, Olive Oil, Orange Peel Extract, Tea Tree Oil, Aloe Vera Juice.

I know it can be a pain to find the right products for sensitive skin at times. Thankfully, as a Blogger, I’ve done most of the work for you! Using these cleansers for sensitive skin will help you maintain the overall health and look of your complexion. Ever since I found good cleansers, my routine has improved.

Skincare is all about trial & error, you won’t know how well something will or will not work until you try. Also, don’t expect to see results overnight. It takes time and consistency to notice a difference with your skin. By using quality products for your skin type and keeping a consistent routine, you can be confident that the results will soon follow!

I haven’t seen these other brands. But I had the same issue with black soap burning my skin. If I use it once a month I’m okay, but anymore than that I’ve got a problem.

Yeah it can be too harsh for some people’s skin! It depends on the ingredients though. When I purchased from smaller brands I had better experiences with african black soap.
