When I started my journey to natural hair, I became interested in also learning how to take care of my skin. I watched different bloggers’ on YouTube and started to purchase my own products to build a natural skincare routine.
Most products contain chemicals that can cause negative effects on your skin. Even products that dermatologists prescribe can be harmful! Don’t you get tired of spending money on products and doctors that make your acne and dark spots worse?
I took steps to build a natural skincare routine and invest in natural/organic products, and you can do the same too! Check out these steps and products that will help you create your own effective skincare routine today!
Step One: Cleansing
When you build a natural skincare routine, your first step should be cleansing your skin. It’s important to remove any makeup or dirt that has accumulated on your face throughout the day! Using a spin brush like the one pictured above can provide a more effective cleanse than your hands.
I purchased this spin brush from a brand called Vanity Planet. It comes with three different brush head attachments:
- Daily Cleansing Facial Brush (best for sensitive skin)
- Exfoliating Facial Brush
- Silicone Brush
Oatmeal Lemon Aloe Bar
I purchased this soap from a small brand called Authentic Vibrations. Everything she sells is natural and handmade. The owner recommended this bar for sensitive, acne-prone skin. You don’t have to worry about this cleanser stripping your skin or causing irritation.
The Lemon in this soap helps to even skin tone, the Aloe and Honey moisturize your skin, and the Marshmallow Root improves your skin’s ability to retain moisture.
Step Two: Exfoliate
Green Tea Scrub
When old cells pile up on the surface of your skin, it can make your appearance dull, rough, and dry. It can also lead to clogged pores, blemishes, and acne. Exfoliating regularly will keep your skin healthy!
Here are more benefits of exfoliating regularly:
- Improves skin complexion
- Accelerates skin cell turnover and helps fade dark marks
- Helps to clear clogged pores that often lead to breakouts
- Allows your skin care products to penetrate and absorb better
I exfoliate every other night, however, it’s best to figure out what your skin likes. The scrub I love using is from Buttercup Essentials and it’s a Green Tea Scrub. It’s gentle on my sensitive skin and leaves my face feeling smooth.

Step Three: Facial Masks
Teami Blends Green Tea Detox Mask
This step in your skincare routine can be done after you finish cleansing, however, I do not recommend using a facial mask the same day you exfoliate. Doing both on the same day can be too harsh on your skin.
Adding a facial mask in your skincare routine can pull out impurities and treat your skin concerns. You can use a facial mask anywhere from 1-2 times per week.
My favorite mask to use is from Teami Blends, and it’s their Green Tea Detox Mask. It helps to eliminate blemishes, improve complexion, and moisturize your skin. The main ingredients in this mask are:
- Matcha Tea
- Bentonite Clay
- Lemon Grass
Step Four: Toner
Adding a facial toner in your skincare routine can help remove any leftover makeup and/or dirt that your cleanser didn’t get. I use a Rose Water toner from Authentic Vibrations. This can also be used as a face moisturizer and makeup setting spray.
Using her Organic Rose Water on your skin can help to lighten acne scars, kill bacteria, and brighten/even your complexion.
Even Tone Retinol Cream
During this step in your routine, you can use any treatment you have for your skincare concerns. The treatment I use is from Genedor Beauty and it’s their Even Tone Retinol Complex. Using Retinol in your skincare routine can reduce wrinkles, even out discoloration, and reduce acne.
This treatment contains organic ingredients and has truly transformed my skin since I’ve started using it. The Retinol Complex is Hydroquinone free, which is an amazing thing! It also does a great job at fading dark marks and keeping acne-prone skin under control.

Step Six: Moisturize
When you build your natural skincare routine, the last step to include is moisturizing your skin. Moisturizing is important because it can:
- Reduce the chances of skin problems
- Help your skin stay young
- Reduce the appearance of blemishes
One of my favorite moisturizers for my skin is Purely Bias Kokum Butter. Kokum Butter has many healing properties for the skin. It’s rich in fatty acids that soften the skin and helps promote elasticity. It also helps to heal dry and cracked skin and aid in improving the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
This butter is creamy and absorbs easily! It’s a great alternative to use instead of Shea Butter if you don’t want a heavy product on your face.
Your skincare routine should include products that work best for your skin type. The products listed above work great for my dry, sensitive skin.
